St. Anne School students may enroll in beginner band class in 6th grade, while 7th and 8th graders are placed into concert band. The bands traditionally present Christmas and end-of-year concerts, play at several pep rallies, perform with the Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School Band at a football game, and participate in other events as they arise.

St. Anne School is the only private school band in Southeast Texas that regularly competes in UIL competitions with public school students and whose students are selected to play in the All-Region Band.  Many researches have concluded that children who play musical instruments during the middle school and high school years show significantly higher levels of math proficiency, increased cognitive abilities, and improved motor skills. 

MUSIC

We center our curriculum around the Orff Schulwerk music pedagogy developed by Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman, which develops musicianship through singing, playing instruments, speech, and movement. 

In music, we use the child's inherent desire to play using imitation, exploration, and creative expression to develop music skills: music literacy, rhythmic proficiency, singing, instrumentation, improvisation, and composition. These skills are not only applicable in the classroom but also in the students' connection to the world intellectually, emotionally, socially, and aesthetically. 

In music class, we strive to encourage appreciation for music and movement of different cultures, languages, and people by experiencing, creating, collaborating, and improvising musical movement pieces.The students' creativity and enthusiasm for music accumulates in performances that we hold throughout the school year.

Theatre

In the theatre class, we use both process-centered and product-centered curricula. In the fall, our goal is to equip students with the basic knowledge and skills of the dramatic arts. We focus on ensemble building, improvisation, acting, character analysis, and scene writing. 

In the spring, we gear up for our spring musical in the theatre classroom and focus on technical theatre: script analysis, set design, costume design, stage management, and back stage crew. All the elements essential in a theatre production. 

Each theatre class is made to develop student confidence, social connections, community building, academic achievement, and dramatic expression.

Physical Education Classes for PK4 - 8th Grades

The mission of St. Anne Catholic School's Physical Education program is to offer activities that meet the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual needs of all students in a safe environment. Our program offers diversified activities that provide students with the opportunity to develop a high level of fitness, a broad spectrum of physical skills, and a positive outlook on physical fitness that will leave them with a legacy of success so they can enjoy an active lifestyle. Our program here at St. Anne provides a wide range of opportunities for students to develop their listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing skills and to deepen their cultural understanding of the Spanish Language.  We know that everyone learns differently. We prefer our students work with the language in a variety of ways to facilitate learning.
 
The effective, psychomotor and cognitive activities allow students to interact with their classmates and practice their reading, speaking, writing and listening Spanish language skills.  

SPANISH CLASS PHYLOSOPHY

I believe that children are natural language learners.  Spanish Class here at St. Anne is designed to build the foundation for fluency and language acquisition in these young learners. We believe that by using teaching methods which utilize fun, play-based techniques, we are helping the students discover interest in the language, as well as build early exposure and comprehension of the language and the appreciation of the Spanish culture.

SPANISH CLASS GOAL

The Goal in the Spanish Class is to motivate and engage students to think, talk, and write about Spanish language and culture, and to help them feel it in a productive, meaningful way.

CURRICULUM

Our curriculum is based on the National Standards for foreign language Learning, which delineates five categories essential for a successful program; Communication, Cultures, Comparisons, Connections and Communities.
 
In keeping with Catholic religious tradition at St. Anne, the Spanish class incorporates Catholic prayers, holidays, and traditions as part of the Spanish class activities. 
 

SPANISH  I

Spanish I is offered to students in 8th grade. This is a High School course.  We follow the same curriculum as Kelly High School Spanish I program. The students are required to take this class for the whole year (2 semesters).

Students are taught special skills that will equip them for high-school, college, and beyond.

3D Printing

This course is for students who are interested in three-dimensional modeling and printing.

Students use Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics skills to create objects in Tinkercad.

Assignments consist of projects for Catholic Schools Week, such as keychains, coffee cups, family member objects, and Playdough cookie cutters for our PreK3 class, where they will enjoy collaborating with them on using their new cookie cutters. Students also have the opportunity to print their creations using our two state-of-the-art Dremel 3D40 Printers.

We begin by learning about 3D printing and the various 3D printing processes. Naturally, we also needed to learn how our printer works as well. Then we finally started to design our very own models.

This course would be beneficial for any student with an interest in careers related to engineering, architecture, robotics and the like.
